The 3 Worst Interview Faux Pas

Here are 3 key interview faux pas we encourage you to avoid if you want to get hired.

1.    Constantly talking about the problems of past employers

  • Perspective employers do not want to hear about bad managers and problems from previous positions.
  • The company interviewing may have some problems they are looking for you to come in and solve, so talking about how bad things were gives the impression that you were not part of the solution.
  • Companies are looking for individuals who view challenges as opportunities.

2.    Constantly talking and not listening

  •  “When someone asks you what time it is, don’t tell them how to build the clock.”  – Get to the point as quickly as possible versus expounding on every detail.
  • The more someone listens during an interview, the better prepared they are to answer the questions appropriately.
  • God gave you two ears and one mouth for a reason!

3.    Expressing a negative attitude

  • A company will almost never hire someone with a bad attitude.
  • Communicate clearly and positively about past experiences and how it will transfer to benefit and add value to this new company.
