Even though the younger generation may have watched you run a family business all their life, it doesn’t automatically mean they are equipped to do it. You’ve had decades to gain your business knowledge.  Your younger family members need intentional development to be ready to take the lead.

Set the next generation up for success by being sure they have adequate exposure and training in all the business functions.

As a side note, it is critically important – to the business and the family – that the younger generation is 100% sure that this is the right move for them. Taking on the leadership of a family business for any reason other than a true desire and excitement for the challenges ahead will lead to a very difficult place.
