Quirky but true, we share a name with the world’s longest burning light bulb: Centennial. A close business contact recently made us aware of this fun connection, and we find it a great reminder of the value of working hard and burning bright.
The Centennial Bulb: Burning Bright for 114 Years!
Here’s a bit of history on our name-double, still burning bright after 114 years:
The Centennial Light is the world’s longest-lasting light bulb. It is located at Fire Station 6 in Livermore, CA. It was donated to the local fire department in 1901. The bulb is at least 114 years old and, in June 2015, it celebrated the milestone of burning over 1,000,000 hours. This bulb was burning before the Wright Brothers flew their first airplane in Kitty Hawk!
You can read more about this marvel at the Centennial Light website. Be sure to check out the “bulb cam!”
In “light” of our new discovery (pun intended) I wanted to share some quotes that herald the importance of light. No matter what life throws at you, continue to burn bright!
Keep your flame lit, and you will never feel darkness. ~I.J. Parker
When you possess light within, you see it externally. ~Anaïs Nin
There are two ways of spreading light; to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it. ~Edith Wharton
Edison failed 10,000 times before he made the electric light. Do not be discouraged if you fail a few times. ~ Napoleon Hill
How do you keep your “light” burning bright?
