Under Grypp’s leadership, the Goering Center’s membership grew 345 percent and financial support from corporate partners more than tripled, positioning Goering Center for further expansion with Butler as president.

The Goering Center’s executive search committee was co-chaired by Tom Flottman, former CEO of Flottman Company, and Jonathan Theders, CEO of RiskSOURCE Clark-Theders. The executive search committee engaged Centennial – Talent Strategy and Executive Search firm, to lead the search efforts to identify a successor.

“The leadership exhibited by the search team to identify the next Goering Center President shows the vibrancy of the Center,” Tom said. “With the support of volunteers like these, the future looks bright under the guidance of our new president, Carol Butler.”

Leaders from around the nation expressed sincere interest in this opportunity – evidence of the influence and reputation in the family and private business community of the Goering Center – and from that the Goering Center’s Board of Directors selected Carol Butler as the new president.

“Identifying a leader who embodies the mission and vision of the Goering Center for Family & Private Business was an imperative,” said Mike Sipple Sr., Chairman and CEO of Centennial. “We were tasked to lead the executive search committee through a thorough, efficient and effective process for this critical leadership position.”

Centennial uses a “4C Recruiting Process®” — extensive evaluation of character, culture, chemistry and competency — to effectively and thoroughly align stakeholders. Attention to detail, their deep network, and national executive search experience led to the selection of the right leader for Goering Center.

Butler is a former Fortune 500 executive with 30 years’ experience successfully leading profitable, global businesses within the manufacturing and distribution industries. Butler served as general manager, group vice president and managing director of many divisions within International Paper and xpedx family of companies. Since 2013 she has operated a consulting firm, working with leaders to optimize business results through the development of people, culture and leadership. She also understands the needs of private and family businesses, having been raised in a family business which is now in its third generation of operation – Butler’s Orchard in Maryland.

Butler has deep roots in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region and is committed to the community. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Life Learning Center and Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation.

Goering Center“It was an honor to serve as the search co-chair for such a critical leadership position for all family and private businesses in our community. Hiring Carol Butler as the next president will provide exactly what is needed to continue the growth and vibrancy of the Goering Center as well as its members,” said Jonathan Theders, CEO of RiskSOURCE® Clark-Theders. “It is critically important to hire the right leader. Therefore, we also needed to engage the right partner to lead this critical search effort.  We knew Centennial would provide what our search committee and board needed: best-of-class executive search management process, coupled with a deep understanding and passion for family and private business.”
