Leadership Lessons from Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer
Our Centennial Team had the opportunity to attend the 2012 Leadercast. Reflections from a team member:
I’ll be the first to admit it…I’m a football junkie. So when I heard that the Leadercast event this year was boasting guests Urban Meyer and (gasp!) Tim Tebow, I was first in line to sign up. I know what amazing leadership qualities these men possess on the football field. You don’t get to be a first round draft pick in the NFL or the head coach of THE Ohio State University’s nationally ranked football program without some skill. What I didn’t realize, was how much I could learn from them off the field. Here are a few key lessons learned from their time on the stage at Leadercast:
*It is possible to have a strong competitive drive and an attitude of selflessness at the same time.
*Don’t worry about what you can’t control. You can control your attitude, effort, and focus, and how you go about treating your teammates.
*Everyone has someone they can influence. You will impact them by what you do, good or bad, by the way you live your life.
*You have to be prepared when your number is called. You have to work hard and prepare when you are NOT in the game so that you are ready when it is your opportunity.
*Love what you do, have passion about what you do, and be willing to sacrifice. That’s what makes a leader.
*Leaders lead by example, whether they intend to or not.
*When you have hard times, the best way to get through them are through faith and family.
I’m looking even more forward to football season this year as I am sure that both Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer will use their platforms in the football world to lead all of us watching in the best way possible.
