So, why do we fail so often?
As you watch or listen to TV and radio news and talk shows and read newspapers this week, pay close attention and keep a mental record of the percentage of time that is spent critiquing and criticizing failures, as opposed to celebrating success.
After a week of doing so share your thoughts back with us…I think we will all be amazed with the findings
If you and I observe similarly, you will conclude that we as a society are either failing much more often than we used to, or perhaps we are merely choosing to focus on and comfortably berate other peoples’ failures much more than we did in the past. Either way, we’re talking about failures a lot these days.
Why does this trend matter?
Do you remember the saying “You are what you eat?” Well, if we choose to consume a steady diet of “failure speak” we will devolve into accepting failure as the natural expectation for nearly every initiative we, or others, undertake. If this problem grows and becomes the norm, it will seriously discourage good people from stepping forward into leadership positions at a very critical point in time where effective leadership and teamwork are needed the most.
I believe that every problem has a solution, and this situation is no different. It is important that we replace “failure speak” with constructive, motivational communication about the many successes, both small and large, that occur all around us every day. I’m not naïve enough to just say that we need more “happy talk.” That’s not the point.
The point is that we must achieve alignment and work together in every facet of life, whether within our families, our schools, our churches, our government, and our businesses to earn more successes.
